A Christmas Carol
December 17, 2009 by amandamacmillan
It’s finally the Christmas holidays and what better way to get you in the mood than go and see a nice wee Christmas movie. So off I went with my mum and my sister to go and see ‘A Christmas Carol’ in 3D.
We all know the story as there has been a fair few versions but with an all star cast including Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman and Colin Firth I was a bit excited.
The film certainly didn’t disappoint. As you’d expect from a Jim Carrey flick there was a good number of laughs which balanced well with the old storyline. The animation was fantastic and the 3D added a special touch. My mum absolutely loved it. She could stop laughing at the 3D images (a little embarrassing with a packed theatre hall).
I’d definitely recommend, despite the added price for going to see it in 3D.
Now all that’s left is to finish my Christmas shopping!
Morton v Celtic

MORTON has been gifted a dream draw in the 4th round of the Scottish Cup against Glasgow giants Celtic after a narrow victory against Dumbarton on Saturday.
Morton won 4-3 over two matches which will bring Celtic to Cappielow in January.
The cash injection from landing one of the old firm teams is something which Morton is in great need of.
Douglas Rae, Morton chairman, said: “The last few years have hit us hard and we have suffered from dwindling attendances.
“I am not sure what the Celtic tie will bring in, but any money will go to balancing the books.”
The team are currently sitting third from the bottom of Division One and face relegation at the end of the season if things don’t start to change.
Steven Harkness (23), a Morton season ticket holder, said: “I would like the see the money spent on a new defender, as we seem to be leaking goals at the moment.”
The two sides last met over a decade ago at Cappielow in the quarter finals of same competition.
On that occasion Celtic travelled with a star-studded line up including Henrick Larsson, Craig Burley, Mark Viduka and Paul Lambert.
The SPL Champions won 3-0 but Morton will be looking to add something to the score board this time around.
Stephen added: “It would be great if we could score against Celtic and even win the game. You never know with football.”
The match will be played at Cappielow on Saturday 9 January and tickets go on sale on December 16.

Again, another post from my blackberry. Amazing!
Okay, so I have recently been introduced to twitter and I must admit at first I didn’t really understand what all the fuss was about. But now I’m completely hooked! I can’t resist the urge to go on and see what my fellow MAMJs are tweeting about, or what Fearne Cotton and Jonathon Ross are up to. It is an addiction! Not very helpful when I have a 3000 word essay to write mind you.
However, I find that despite taking away a fair bit of my day, twitter has been a bit of a helping hand. I get news updates as they happen which is great (and does therefore save a little bit of time). I also feel that twitter is becoming a little bit like my therapist. It is a means for me to offload without my family having to endure listening to me go on about my workload (sorry to all of you who follow me on twitter).
In the end I’d say twitter you’re a star!
Although here is a video I found about how twittering can be taken too far. Hopefully I won’t end up like this!
My Blackberry

I am very excited because at this moment in time I am sitting on a train posting this from my blackberry. How cool is that! This little hanheld phone means that I can access twitter, facebook, emails and my blog while on the move. Ok so most of you already knew what it can do but I am still very excited. It should make some parts of uni a little easier when I am on the move.
Although the internet can be quite slow I am very happy with my little blackberry (or blueberry as my mum likes to call it).
Big Man Walking 2
November 18, 2009 by amandamacmillan
DESPITE the weather Inverclyde residents were out in force to welcome the Big Man Walking this weekend.
A series of events took place on Friday and Saturday in Port Glasgow, Gourock and Greenock to greet the eight-metre high marionette.
He walked through the streets of Port Glasgow on Friday where he received gifts from the locals, including a sausage roll from Greggs and a bottle of wine from the Star Hotel.
On Saturday, the people of Gourock were hanging out of their windows in amazement at the Big Man walking past.
A parade was held in honour of the giant puppet on Saturday night at the Battery Park.
People were clad in fancy dress and carried lanterns to the sound of pipers in the background and the evening culminated in the annual fireworks display.
The street theatre event was part of Inverclyde’s third annual Myths and Legends Festival.
Willie Wilson, community services manager for Inverclyde Council, said: “It’s been a fantastic event over the past two days. Everybody’s had smiling faces and has had a great time. It’s great that the community get on board with an event like this.”
The event was enjoyed by thousands of people young and old.
Dan O’Donnell, from Inverkip, was celebrating his 61st birthday at the fireworks on Saturday night.
When talking about the Big Man he said: “He’s some size, he’s absolutely brilliant. It was a good event for everybody, it brought all of the towns together and the fireworks display was unbelievable.”
Nicola McCready, a performer at the event, said: “It has been one of the most eye-opening things that has came to Inverclyde and I think a lot of people want to see something like this happen all the time.”
The Big Man Walking is a figure based on Scottish mythology and was created by The Puppet Lab and Puppet Animation Scotland (PAS).
He had already visited Bute, Kirkcaldy, Buckie and Invergordon as part of his journey back to Scotland.
Here is a photo story I made of the event:
