I am in love with Micah P. Hinson. My boyfriend Joe is aware of this, and is also aware of the fact that, should Micah P. HInson suddenly decide to sing to me, Joe would be suddenly single.
I am in love with Micah solely for his voice. I first heard an album from an old flatmate, who forced me to listen. I didn’t even know what he looked like until I saw him in concert in Leeds a few months ago (more on that later…)
He looks like this:

- Micah P. Hinson
Hardly offensive, but you wouldn’t necessarily fall at his feet either!
But when I listen to his voice that is exactly what I would do! One of his albums became the sole thing I would listen to voer and over again whilst looking out of windows on exceedingly long bus journeys abroad, and I haven’t got sick of him yet.
As mentioned, I went to see him in Leeds. He was playing in a church. Not a converted church like Oran mor or Cottiers, but a real functioning Church. There obviously wasn’t a bar, so they had a bring your own policy. So there we sat, on the pews, surrounded by polite indie kids with our cans of lager, listening to this immense voice reverberating. It was just him, a mate, and his wife on stage.
He’s also from the deep south, giving him a fantastic accent. I’m not sure why this is cool, but it is.
And so, in these times of hellish deadlines, I urge you all to do what I do and turn to a slightly odd, country/indie/folk type singer to get you through. Rest assured that most of the time when I have my headphones in, I’m listening to him.
And yes, I’m aware I sound like a lovesick teenager. I don’t care. Shut up.

Seeing as my twitter on Seasick Steve provoked some sort of reaction I thought I would do a very quick post about him…
Why I love him:
1. I love blues music. particularly the earthy 3 string guitar type
2. He’s had a hard life, and you can hear it. I like it when singers sound like they have had a hard life.
3. He has a kind of bizarre universal appeal; my dance music loving friend is also an appreciator, as is a friend who is so obsessed with punk he has the name of his favourite punk band (Leftover Crack… enough said) tattooed down his leg. The wonderful beardy hobo that is Seasick Steve transcends this.
4. Only a blues artist can have an album called ‘I started off with nothin’ and I still got most of it left’
5. His music is awesome!
And so, for all our appreciation:
