Striking lorry drivers

January 16th, 2008 by listerbo

One month ago there was a  strike that created a general stoppage of trade, blocking  traffic and the arrival of fresh fruit and vegetables in all supermarkets for two long days. All wholesale dealers, suppliers, supermarkets and petrol pump attendants were involved in the protest. The strike of the HGV drivers has caused the stoppage of traffic on roads, blocking the arrival of the fresh food especially from the south of Italy: tomato, oranges, aubergines and peppers. It caused many problems for traffic and our daily lives. All the warehouses were empty because many supermarkets were bombarded by many people that had to buy the fresh food remaining. It involved all the regions of Italy, but Sicily suffered most damage. The crisis also concerned petrol pumps. In fact the danger, and what actually happened,  was that people have besieged the pumps because they were looking for food and they were moving from supermarket to supermarket. In this way fuel finished too.
I think that this event was one of the many consequences of bad management of the economy and of bad administration of our country! People make their displeasure felt and demonstrate their discontent through strikes.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN FOR SICILY HAS BEEN COPIED!

January 13th, 2008 by listerbo

Legambiente, a non-profit organization for the defence of nature, complained that the environmental plan for Sicily has been copied from the Veneto plan. Some environmental directors for Sicily, P.Tolomeo and S.Anzà, seem to have copied the content of the plan from another regional plan, that of Venice, referring to maps, problems and measures that don’t reflect the regional reality. The regional councillor, who firmed the subsequent decree, denies that the plan has been copied, but in fact there are also reported some misprints and links, which would appear to prove the misdeed. For the writing (or, better, the copying) of the plan more than 75,000 €  has been paid to the Universities of Palermo and Messina, Arpa, and other technicians. Furthermore, the original Veneto plan hadn’t even been approved by EU commission because of the lack of emission measurements. This is a real scandal that must be punished!

Bologna Law Faculty sends books to Kosovo

January 10th, 2008 by listerbo

On the 21 December 2007 the Law Faculty and the Department of Legal Sciences “Antonio Cicu” at the University of Bologna  made an official donation of text books to the Unibersity of Pristina. The  consignment was made on the to a representative of the Carabinieri

La consegna dei libri

The consignment of fifteen boxes of books took place in the courtyard of the Law Faculty in a ceremony attended by the vice-chancellor for International Relations Roberto Grandi and  a representative of the armed forces.

Stefano Canestrari, Dean of the Law faculty, said: “We believe that the widening of educational opportunities plays a  fundamental role in growth and development.  We are therefore especially happy to have made this contribution. It is an achievement we are very proud of”.  Professor Gianni Cimbalo, who teaches in the faculty and who promoted this initiative, added, “It has been a real pleasure for us to be able to hand over these books. We hope that it is just the beginning of a lasting collaboration with the University di Pristina and with the Carabinieri.”

The delivery of the volumes, which will be enhancing the library catalogue of the Law Faculty in  Pristina, was organised with the help of Tenente Colonnello Alessandro Bellia, commander of the Italian troops in Kosovo. The cultural participation of the University of Bologna in former Jugoslavia is also actively promoted by means of formal collaboration agreements signed not only with the University of Pristina, but also with the University of Belgrade, in order to promote research on the subject of “Religious Freedom and Civil Rights in Eastern Europe“.

Clementina Forleo alone

Clementina Forleo has been awarded the ‘Premio Borsellino‘ (Prize in memory of the murdered judge Paolo Borsellino).
The prize is awarded for social and civic committment. Her tearful reaction, she explained, was due to the fact that she was ‘deeply perturbed” by the attempts to belittle her work which appeared the same day in a national newspaper, which compared her to a “swollen river”, a mad woman. She concluded that : ‘At the moment we really need to fight against these despicable attemps to denigrate judges’.

See Beppe Grillo’s post on this nice witchhunt.

Pourquoi pas?

October 9th, 2007 by listerbo

Ansa reports that  pm De Magistris has gone back to work in Catanzaro with a vengeance, pushing the accelerator on the Why Not investigation into the illegal use of public funding. He is reported to have held a meeting with consultants in connection with the people whose names appear in the investigation, including contacts between Clemente Mastella and entrepreneur Antonio Saladino, key figure in the enquiry.

Clemente is very busy too, in his own little way, taking part in cooking shows, celebrating the invasion of the Americas by C. Columbus and appearing on Italian talk shows via satellite (umpteenth episode about the  Mastella – De Magistris case on The Insect’s Porta a porta (“door to door”.) All of which will further world peace and democracy.

Mastella’s latest ultimatum to the Government is  “If you don’t like me lump me. We can have a general election. You either defend me or I get out”

WHY NOT????

The digital divide petition

October 9th, 2007 by listerbo

Most Italian politicians and many journalists haven’t got the foggiest idea about the real importance of Beppe Grillo’s V-Day. Instead of wasting time and energy being offended and insulting peoples’ intelligence by comparing Grillo to Mussolini, they should be taking a more serious look at ICT. Grillo is successful first of all because he is a brilliant comedian, secondly because he comes up with a lot of information (rather than bla-bla opinions) and thirdly because he uses webtools intelligently, something that hardly anyone in the media has bothered to mention.

Of course blogs, used by averagely intelligent people,  are a serious threat to traditional media, (and therefore to traditional politics) and have the power to undermine the present RAI-Mediaset duopoly.

This petition is worth looking at and perhaps you might like to sign it!
